The following poem is called “The Journey” by Mary Oliver. I can absolutely relate with her as God has led me to make the decision to merge as one church with CCV. The reactions and realities that have happened since the decision are perfectly spelled out in this poem. I hope it inspires you to think deeply about your journey and what you MUST do.
THE JOURNEY
One day you knew what you had to do and began
Though the voices around you kept shouting their bad advice
Though the whole house began to tremble
And you felt the old tug at your ankles
“Mend my life,” each voice cried, “Mend my life”
But you didn’t stop – you knew what you had to do
Though the wind pried with its stiff fingers at the very foundations
Though their melancholy was terrible
It was already late enough, and a wild night
And the road full of fallen branches and stones
But little by little, as you left their voices behind
The stars began to burn through the sheets of clouds
And there was a new voice, which you slowly recognized as your own
That kept you company as you strode deeper and deeper into the world
Determined to do the only thing you could do
Determined to save the only life you could save.
Journey On,
Trent
Very Apropos.
Inspiring and very appropriate for what you are going through with our merge with CCV… beautiful…
one of my weaknesses is the ability to understand ‘poetry’ I’ve always been a black and white person and when you add shades of gray or other colors, you loose me. Sorry. Don’t understand what you are really trying to convey.
My bad?????
Poetry can be tricky. This one has a lot of underlying messages.
As I have said to you before… It really doesn’t matter to me what name is on the building or how many merges you do….it’s the one on one live investment that matters to me….sorry.
I’m not sure what you meant by one on one live investment. Would you please clarify for me?
One on One. Trent, when you preach, it’s like you are talking directly to me (via Him). Addressing the issues that I am going thru at the time. To me that is an investment that you are making directly into my life and my spirit. I have search long and hard to find someone who can speak to me and my spirit like you do….obviously our Lord has given you His spirit and His ways. That is the reason I would be concerned about video preaching. It’s just not the same. Sorry. I’m not trying to be “it’s all about me” ….it’s just the way I have been raised and since I’m old….it’s hard to change. If the Lord has spoken to you and how you should conduct His business, far be it from me to challenge that or question it. I love you in the Lord and pray for you daily that His wisdom and direction will guide your life.
